The new headquarters of the Unicredit Tiriak Bank in Bucharest, the Unicredit Tower on the Expozitiei Boulevard, is located in direct proximity to the two so-called Gate Towers. These form a type of gateway to the center of the city located at the northwest of the periphery. The contractor, moving away from this typical city construction, requested a demanding architectural framework. The architects developed a – for a bank building very unusual – concept: the building does not rise straight up vertically, but is shifted horizontally. The 16-story building towers into the air, looking as if someone gave it a sideways push while doing so. The exterior glass skin remains „undamaged”. Spacious atriums inside the building were made possible by the horizontal shifting of the floors. The building has been slightly lifted on the narrow east side, which allows the entryway to be covered.
